WEEK OF MARCH 23
Please send me an email sometime this week with evidence of how you have continued to be engaged in Food and Nutrition.
You do not need to cook but make sure your family is okay with you being in the kitchen, first, if you wish to do so.
Take pictures Or make videos OR keep a journal (paper or electronic) to share with me of:
Food(s) you have made
Sweeping the floor
Bringing in groceries
Looking through cookbooks
Other ways you have been involved with Food and Nutrition
Watch some cooking shows or videos on specific techniques to inspiration and instruction.
Keep a digital or paper log of what you have watched with some information such as
what was being made
what new techniques or equipment or ingredients were used
P.S. - I learned something new about how to whip cream better recently from a video, even though I have been doing it for years.
If you want to know what I learned, send me an email and I will tell you!

Washing Dishes and Using the Dishwasher
The dishwashing routine at school may different from what you do at home. Please follow our school routine in labs, as they ensure things run smoothly.
Wash and rinse all food prep items in the sink with hot water and soap.
Food prep items include: measures
bowls
cutting boards and large knives
pastry blenders, rolling pins, graters, etc.
muffin tins, cookie sheets, pizza pans
pots, frying pans
other items used in food preparation
The student responsible for washing the dishes should wash as much as possible before eating so that there is not much to do after eating. That means that the Dish Washer student does not help with food prep unless there are no dishes to wash.
Food service items can go into the dishwasher.
Food service items that fit include:
plates
soup bowls
glasses / mugs
pitchers / teapots
cutlery
Ensure that the dishwashers are loaded correctly so that all the items will come into contact with water and can get clean.
I will put soap into the dishwashers and start them, so that is not a task that you need to do.

Here are the Kitchen Safety Notes for you to review for your first quiz.
The Recipe Reading notes here are a bit fuzzy, but still readable. When you have your quiz, you will have to give examples directly from the provided recipe that describe the information in that recipe.
