SOME DRAWSTRING BAG INFORMATION
For your drawstring bag, you may use a single strand of yarn or you may wish to braid three strands of yarn together for a stronger drawstring.
If you are using a single strand, you will need about 1 meter of yarn.
If you are braiding, you will need 3 strands of yarn that are 1.5 meters each. Tie together the ends of the yarn and tape them to a table or countertop so they are easier to work with.
The video below will help you with braiding .

September
Grade 7 students are with me in Applied Arts for for the first half of the school year, which ends near the end of January or the beginning of February.
The Grade 7s start their year by practicing some hand sewing skills, such as threading the needle, tying an anchor knot and some stitches. This is all in preparation for the mouse pincushion project. There will soon be an invasion of mice or minions or other creations!!!
Students will begin their sewing machine adventure by stitching on paper as they learn some basic techniques and learn to thread the top and bottom of the machine. Paperstitching will soon be left behind and replaced by stitching with fabric and thread and creating 1 or 2 sewing machine projects. The first project is a pair of pajama bottoms. The second is a drawstring bag, time permitting.
Here is an interesting link to see how stitches are formed on the sewing machine. Our machines are like the lower example in the video.

~2:09 Upper Threading of Machine
*approach the bunny from the left
*cut thread on an angle before inserting into needle
*insert thread from front to back, making sure that the thread does not become twisted around the needle
~3:31 Bringing up Lower Thread
*hold the upper thread in your left
*turn bunny towards you only ONE rotation at a time
*pull the upper thread towards the top of the machine and undo the loop
